Can I determine the 'true' number of calories in sugar substitutes?

I've mostly switched to pure erythritol, so calorie calculation is often not a factor. However, erythritol can get expensive to use in the quantity needed to make desserts and the like.

I have some Monk Fruit in the Raw, but like many products it turns out that I can't trust the label. The #1 ingredient is maltodextrin which has basically the same number of calories as pure sugar - yet the product is marketed as zero calorie.

I contacted the company about calories per cup of Monk Fruit in the Raw and they refused to answer the question.

What sweetener can I use with near zero calories that is affordable if using a good bit of it? One of the nice things about erythritol is that it can be used at a bit over 1:1 ratio and it will match the sweetness of sugar. Pure monk fruit is available, but it is so sweet a tiny amount goes a long way and I have found no good resources for finding a good ratio for dessert recipes where I want to cut out the sugar calories but put back the sweetness.
